PrestaShop upgrade

We upgrade to the latest stable version. The webshop stays open meanwhile.

We upgrade on a copy, migrate the modules and the custom work, and go live only after ordering, payment and shipping have run through the rehearsal.

Why it is not one click

An upgrade is risky when the webshop is not in its factory state. Most are not.

Modules that stopped following the version

An abandoned module gives a blank page or an error on the new version. We first find out which one, and what replaces it.

Custom code in the theme

Changes written into templates or overrides are lost in the upgrade. We collect them and rebuild them on the new version.

Payment and shipping

Payment and shipping modules are the most sensitive. We run them through a real process before going live.

What we do

The steps of the upgrade.

Inventory and compatibility

We review the installed modules, the theme, the overrides and the PHP version, and write down what will break.

Building the copy

The upgrade is built on a copy of the webshop. The live instance is untouched until the end.

Modules and custom code

Modules are replaced or substituted, custom development is migrated.

Rehearsal

Ordering, payment, shipping, invoicing and e-mails are all run through on the copy.

Go live

The switch happens at an agreed time, with a rollback point.

Follow-up

We watch the error log for days after go live and fix what surfaces.

How it works

Three steps, in a predictable order.

1

Audit

We look at the webshop and write down what can be upgraded, what has to be replaced, and how much work it is.

2

Upgrade on a copy

The upgrade is completed on the copy and the full purchase flow is rehearsed.

3

Go live

We switch at an agreed time, then watch the shop for a few days.

Frequent questions

What people ask before an upgrade.

How long is the webshop down?
The switch itself takes minutes, because the upgrade is already finished on the copy. The time slot is chosen from your traffic.
What happens to custom development?
They are collected in the audit and rebuilt on the new version. Whatever a module can cover, a module covers.
Which version should we move to?
The latest stable version your payment and shipping modules support. The audit answers this.
What if an error shows up after go live?
The rollback point stays available and we watch the error log for days after go live. Errors caused by the upgrade are fixed.
Do we need new hosting?
Not necessarily. The audit says whether the current PHP version and resources are enough for the new version.
